How Honest Plumber Paddington Works

Honest Plumber Paddington is a single phone line sitting in front of a group of independently owned local plumbing companies. You ring 07727 401418, we decide which of those companies can reach you soonest and suits the fault, and that company does the work. We do not send staff of our own, and it would be dishonest for a site called Honest Plumber to hint otherwise.

A split joint in a Bayswater conversion, a dead boiler in a Maida Vale mansion block and a blocked gully in a Marylebone mews are three different jobs in three different postcodes. One fixed crew cannot be in all three places at once, but a network can put the closest free company on each, and can hand an awkward job such as a pressurised cylinder to a company that fits them regularly.

Traffic and parking decide a lot in Westminster. Paddington station, Edgware Road and Marylebone Road clog at the wrong hour, and bays are controlled, so a partner already working nearby loses less time than one crossing town. That is the practical reason for the model, and the paragraphs below set out each step so nothing about it is a surprise.

From Call to Finish

From Your Call to a Finished Job

  1. 1

You ring or send the form

Tell us what is wrong and where you are. That is all we need to begin.

  2. 2

    We find the right company

We look for a partner company that is free, close by and suited to the fault.

  3. 3

You are texted who is coming

A text with the partner company's name reaches you before anyone arrives.

  4. 4

A written quote, then the work

The partner gives a written quote before any repair starts.

  5. 5

The partner invoices you, we stay on it

You pay the partner company directly. We handle no payment or invoices.

Stage by Stage

Each Stage, in Plain English

1
You start

You ring or send the form

Ring 07727 401418 or use the form with a short description and your address. A real person answers at every hour, so a dead boiler at 3am gets the same start as a tap booked for next week. We agree nothing on that first call and we promise neither a price nor a time.

2
We match

We find the right company

A frozen condensate pipe and a failed unvented cylinder are different jobs, so we match for fit as well as distance. We ring you back with a company and a realistic window, and we say plainly when a cold snap or a bad night on the roads means it will take longer.

3
You are told

You are texted who is coming

Once the partner confirms, we text you its company name and details. If the person at your door does not match the message, do not let them in, and ring us. Nobody turns up unannounced.

4
The work

A written quote, then the work

The partner diagnoses the fault, then sets out parts, labour and any call-out charge in writing before it begins, so you see the figure first. Water work follows the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, and gas and boiler work follows the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 and the manufacturer's instructions.

5
Payment

The partner invoices you, we stay on it

The partner invoices and takes payment itself once the job is done, on the terms in its written quote. If something is not right afterwards, ring 07727 401418 and we chase it with the partner for you.

Why It Suits You

Why a Network Does Better Than One Crew

It comes down to distance, the right skill for the fault and a single number that stays on it.

Closer to your front door

With partners working across W2, W9 and W1, the nearest free company takes the call, instead of a single crew fighting across Westminster traffic.

The right hands for the fault

A leaking riser, a boiler lockout and a CCTV drain survey are different jobs. Each goes to a company that does that kind of work regularly.

One number that stays on the job

You deal with 07727 401418 from first call to last, even though an independent company does the work. If it does not go to plan, that is the number to ring.

Questions, Answered Plainly

Do you send your own plumbers?

No. The work is done by independently owned local plumbing companies from our network. We take the call, match the job and text you the company's name before it arrives. The partner is a separate business, so its quote, its work and its invoice are its own.

Who do I pay?

You pay the partner company directly, on the terms in its written quote. We handle no invoices and take no payment. This keeps the money simple, because the company that did the job is the one you pay.

Will I know who is coming?

Yes. When a partner confirms, we text you its company name and details before anyone arrives. If the name on the van or badge does not match, ring 07727 401418 before letting anyone in. We promise that text on every booking.

How quickly will somebody come?

It depends on which partner company is free and how far it is from you, so we never promise a fixed time on the phone. We ring you back with a company and a window, and we are honest when a cold morning or a clogged Edgware Road means longer. Nearby partners generally arrive sooner.

What if the work is not right?

Tell the partner company first, since it did the work and is best placed to put it right. If you cannot get anywhere, ring 07727 401418 and we will chase it on your behalf. We cannot promise a particular outcome and we are not responsible for the partner's work, but you do not have to chase alone.

Do you give a price on the phone?

No. Only the partner company can price a job, because it has to see the fault first. It gives a written quote before work begins and you agree it before anything starts. Published London ranges give a rough guide, but the quote is the number that counts. Our terms cover the detail.

Why do you call them partner companies and not staff?

Because they are not staff. Each is its own independently owned business with its own premises, vehicles and accounts. Calling them what they are is the only honest way to describe it, and it explains why the partner, not us, issues the invoice.

What happens if you cannot find a partner for my job?

We say so on the call. If the diary is full, the fault needs a specialism none of the nearby partners carry or the address is outside our patch, we pass you to one of our partner plumbing companies who can come out. In that case the partner quotes, invoices and takes payment directly, and we handle no payment or invoices.

Does the arrangement change who is responsible in my flat?

No. The model decides who does the work and who invoices, not who owns a pipe. In a converted terrace or mansion block, shared stacks and risers usually belong to the freeholder or managing agent, and your lease decides. The partner will tell you on site which side of that line the fault falls.

Where can I read the legal position?

On our terms page, in plain language. It sets out that your contract for the plumbing is with the partner company, that payment goes to the partner and how complaints are handled. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
